Students must use a bound composition book with a sewn binding (or called stock-bound or book-bound), preferably with graph paper instead of lined. I would not suggest getting a composition book with split pages. Pages must be sewn in, no spiral bound or glued in pages. Pages must not be perforated so they can be pulled out. These can be purchased at grocery stores, CVS/Walgreens and office supply stores.
