Introduction specific to hypothesis, supports what is tested
Focused Problem
"Variables are factors that can be measured and/or controlled. Independent variables are those that are manipulated, and the result of this manipulation leads to the measurement of the dependent variable. A controlled variable is one that should be held constant so as not to obscure the effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable." IB Internal Assessment Online Workshop, 2009
Independent Variable
Variable that is manipulated. This needs to be specific.
Dependent Variable
Variable that results from the independent variable. Generally the variable that
is measured.
Controlled Variables
Variables that are closely regulated (held constant) so that they do not effect
the experiment, change any other variable.
""Control of variables" refers to the manipulation of the independent variable and the attempt to maintain the controlled variables at a constant value. The method should include explicit reference to how the control of variables is achieved. If the control of variables is not practically possible, some effort should be made to monitor the variable(s)." IB Internal Assessment Online Workshop, 2009
